Can I get an extension on my course?

In most cases the answer is yes. It is dependent on your course as to whether this can be allowed and how much additional time can be approved.  The reason for this is because we need to make sure you are studying the most recent content on our heavily regulated courses.  If your learning is too old then some awarding bodies may not award a certificate so we ensure we allow as much time as possible without impacting your qualification.

How do I request this?

If your course is eligible for an extension then you will see an option within your learner platform to purchase an extension.  This option will not show until 3 months before the course deadline for all courses except Access to Higher Education which will show 1 month from the deadline.

At this point you can either try and complete the course prior to the deadline or take some pressure off by purchasing an extension. You can choose how long you extend by in set increments. 

What if I purchase an extension and still need more time?

This will be dependent on the overall length of time that is permitted.  If the option to extend for 12 months is available but you only choose one month, you will have the option to purchase a further 11 months if required.  

What if I need more time than is offered or no extension option is available?

If no option shows or you have used your maximum extension time then it will be because there is a restriction on your course relating to length of time on programme.

In these scenario's, a request can be submitted which will be reviewed on a case by case basis taking into consideration how long you have been on programme and how much of the course has been completed.

How do I raise a request?

It is easy to raise a request for a course extension through your learner portal mailing system. Remember to select which course you are requesting the extension for and then choose the below options.  

Please add into the ticket description the reason the extension is required and how long you are requesting.
